If weather is an important factor for your trip to Ghana, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, February is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 82.4 F. Travelers looking to avoid the cold should look outside of July, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 77.0 F).
Regardless of which month you are hoping to book your flights to Ghana, aim to secure your flight tickets 2, 3, or even 4 months earlier if you can. Although the prices are competitive, you’ll still find flight tickets are relatively expensive with very few drops in price throughout the entire year. Being flexible with your dates will help you secure the cheapest flights to Ghana, and if you can deal with warm weather along with some rain, then April to July make for good months to find cheaper flight tickets. Events, festivals and Christmas time will cause the price of flights to Ghana to shoot up so either avoid these altogether or make sure you plan well ahead of time and secure your flights tickets early.

Ghana is rich in history, culture, wildlife and landscape. Travelers who set off on flights to Ghana are on their way to one of Africa’s less-explored gems. Although it is renowned as one of the friendliest African countries, Ghana is not that well set on the tourist trail. This may come as a surprise, given its location on the coast, the acres of wildlife parks in the north, and some of the most vibrant cities to be found in the continent.
Ghana flights take you to Africa’s west coast near Togo, Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. While the country is plenty populated, it’s likely the plane to Ghana will be sparsely filled. This African country is still an unexplored destination by many travelers, and tourists will feel the warmth of the people within seconds of disembarking the plane.
Most flights to Ghana land in Accra, the country’s capital city and the most populated region on the Gulf of Guinea. Accra offers travelers typical city accommodations including a rich restaurant and nightlife scene. It is a bustling place, which can be intimidating at first sight, but many travelers quickly fall in love with its energetic pulse.
Ghana boasts extensive natural parks; the most famous is Mole National Park. This wildlife expanse is home to many animals, birds and reptiles. Travelers booking flights to Ghana can experience one of the greatest rainforests in the country. Kakum National Park features canopy walkways and nature trails, and is a must-see destination stop for eco-travelers. Book tickets to Ghana during the country’s festivals and experience an awesome escapade of dance, music, and colorful decorations and crafts from Ghana’s citizens.
Hop on a flight to Ghana and prepare to be amazed.
The quickest way and easiest way to get to Accra’s city center is with a taxi from outside of the airport. You’ll find them waiting at Car Park 2. Most drivers don’t use meters so make sure you agree on the price of the fare before getting in. A lot of the attractions in Ghana are rather spread out so it might be of interest for you to hire a car from the airport and drive everywhere yourself, however, if you’re just planning to go to your hotel then a car will be a hindrance. Once you’ve booked your flights to Ghana it might be worth inquiring with hotels before you book to see if they offer transfers.
Roads are not well-maintained throughout most of the country and the easiest way to navigate them—especially if traveling far—is to rent a 4×4. However, be prepared for Ghanaian drivers, who feel no compulsion to stay within the confines of the road—let alone their own lanes—if potholes are in the way. The easiest way to get around is to hire a car, but to reiterate, be sure this is a sport utility vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Many of the roads are filled with potholes or fade to dirt tracks off the main routes.
Tro-tros are an inexpensive and interesting way to travel. These minibuses cover almost all destinations you could wish to visit. They leave when they are full—however long it takes to fill—stop wherever anyone wants to get off, and often transport animals (certainly a chicken or two) along with passengers. Tro-tros are slow, but an essential experience for anyone wanting to view the country and spend time with its people.
Regular buses are available for longer trips. Again, schedules, if existent, are rarely adhered to. It is not unusual for a bus that is meant to leave at 6am to still be waiting in the depot for more people to get on at midday. Take a good book, plenty of food, and a great deal of patience if you’re traveling by bus. As with tro-tros, traveling by bus is an excellent way to meet Ghanaians—often said to be the friendliest people in Africa.
