The world’s longest and fastest zip line is found at the Sun City resort in South Africa. The Zip 2000 ride skims 1.24 miles down a rugged African hillside and valley. The descent is the equivalent of a 900-plus foot vertical drop – with all that gravity, riders reach speeds of up to 93 miles per hour.
The videos below give a sense of what it’s like to ride, though obviously they’re no substitute for the real experience.
The Northern Hemisphere’s largest zip slide experience is due to open in March 2013. Though brand new, the Zip World ride in Bethesda near Bangor in North Wales trails in the wake of its South African counterpart.
Located at the world’s largest old slate quarry, Zip World line is a little more than a mile long, drops 700 feet and allows riders to reach 75 mph.
