What routes have the best rates this holiday? Travelocity says several key U.S. domestic runs still offer great deals this season – this despite the fact the average roundtrip domestic airfare is $414, taxes included. That fare is up almost nine percent compared to comparable 2011 numbers.
The trick is knowing which routes come in below that average. Travelocity says, “Some of the most popular routes from top markets are actually below [that] average. Here are some examples:
– Atlanta flights to New York City average $264 roundtrip.
– Atlanta flights to Denver average $315 roundtrip.
– Boston flights to Chicago average $298 roundtrip.
– Boston flights to Washington, D.C. average $177 roundtrip.
– Chicago flights to Los Angeles average $408 roundtrip.
– Chicago flights to Orlando average $345 roundtrip.
– Dallas/Fort Worth flights to Los Angeles average $367 roundtrip.
– Los Angeles flights to Denver average $312 roundtrip.
– New York City flights to Orlando average $405 roundtrip.
– Philadelphia flights to south Florida average $372 roundtrip.
– San Francisco flights to Los Angeles average $166 roundtrip.
– South Florida flights to New York City average $272 roundtrip.
– Washington, D.C. flights to Orlando average $321 roundtrip.
Here’s a key tip to saving some serious cash. Travelocity says you can save as much as $379 on airfare if you depart on your trip Dec. 24, or 25 and then return later in the week – this as opposed to leaving the weekend before Christmas. One colleague of this Cheapflights reporter always flies out to visit family on the West Coast on Christmas Day. The rate is great, and flights historically have not been as full.
