We made it – it’s officially summer! Which, of course, means it’s time to pack your swimsuit and sunscreen for a weekend getaway to one of the country’s sunny waterfront locales.

The U.S. shores easily offer some of the country’s most popular summer hot spots, ranging from favorites like Cape Cod and Lake George on the east coast to California’s Catalina Island and the sunny, serene beaches of the Oregon Coast. But within the country, you’ll also find summer gems like the lakefront Saugatuck, Michigan, a small town known for its indie shops, art galleries and Lake Michigan beaches. Lake Tahoe, meanwhile, sheds its reputation as a haven for snow sports come winter, offering a tranquil blue lake, quiet mountain air and plenty of natural beauty in California and Nevada.

Still not sure where to head to this summer? Find a little inspiration with this photo tour of the hottest summer spots around the country.
