Gardens know no borders or cultural boundaries. Throughout the world, gardens stand as a testament to beauty, nature and history – and they make for an inspiring day of sightseeing, too.

Some sit unexpectedly in the middle of urban centers, like the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York City or the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. Others, like Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden in Pattaya, Thailand showcase local and regional fauna as part of a conservation project. Historical sculptures are also prevalent at Nong Nooch, as well as Kenroku-en in Japan. And you’ll find a touch of history at gardens like the green lawns of the Gardens of Versailles in France, which date back to the 17th century.

No matter where you travel, you’re likely to find a slice of local beauty at a botanic garden near you. Enjoy a look at some of the world’s most beautiful gardens with this photo tour.
