When it comes to design, it seems all the attention goes to a building’s exterior architecture and interior décor. From the breathtaking peaks of Gothic cathedrals to the ornate furnishings found in museums, castles and the like, the eye tends to gravitate toward the interior and exterior design.

But if you take a moment to look up next time you enter one of the world’s most notable buildings, you might be pleasantly surprised. Ceilings are much more than a roof over your head; in some cases, they’re the most beautiful aspect of the entire building.
