It isn’t always easy to translate a magical travel moment into an equally spectacular photo. Even after finding the right lighting and setting up the perfect frame, you can be left something that doesn’t quite do your subject justice. One surefire way to create a stunning image, though, is to include a reflection. A common subject like a temple or bridge becomes new again when you add a dash of reflective duplicity.

Oceans, lakes, rivers and even puddles can create a beautifully reflective image of a skyline or landmark, like in the images of Kyoto’s Golden Pavilion and France’s Chateau d’Azay-le-Rideau below. In other cases, art installations like Chicago’s Cloud Gate become the canvas for a reflective travel photo. While it isn’t always easy to capture the perfect reflection in your travel photos, the brilliant results are well-worth the effort.

Take a moment to ooh and ahh over these beautiful reflections from around the world.
