Deep within the crevasses and caverns that hide beneath our feet lie some of the most spectacular sights Mother Nature has produced. From stalactites and limestone to glaciers and grottos, you might be surprised what the caves of the world have in store for you.

Beyond the stunning sights, some caves also offer thrilling tours like rafting or ziplining. Others use magnificent lights to illuminate the pools and rocks within, and some are even used as sites of worship. Khao Luang Cave in Thailand, for example, is one of the region’s most esteemed Buddhist temples, home to hundreds of golden Buddha statues. Closer to home, you’ll find one of the largest cave systems in the world hiding in New Mexico. Carlsbad Caverns has long been known for its unique limestone formations and grandiose stalactites.

Take a look into these hidden wonders with this photo tour of beautiful caves around the world.
