If you have been considering signing up for the Clear® registered traveler program, which eases passage through airport security, this will help.

Clear and Virgin Atlantic now have an open enrollment station in Terminal 4 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). You can apply for a Clear card in person from 10am to 10pm daily.

Clear’s registered traveler program works as follows: pay an annual fee of $99.95, undergo a background check, register your biometrics (that includes an iris scan and fingerprints) and if the Transportation Security Administration gives the green light, you get a Clear card.

The card does not allow you to bypass airport security, but it does speed things up. There’s a dedicated registered traveler lane. The theory is that if the government knows who they’re screening, the process can move faster. Most of the time there’s no need, for example, for time-consuming secondary screening.

Clear operates registered traveler lanes at a number of airports across the country: JFK’s Terminal 7, San Jose (SJC), Cincinnati (CVG), and Orlando (MCO). The Terminal 4 lane at Kennedy is slated to open next month, as are registered traveler lanes at Newark Liberty International (EWR). Registered travelers can use Clear cards at any of these airports.
