This summer, why not consider trading your shirt and shorts for your birthday suit?

There are more than 52 million people who partake in clothing-optional recreation at more than 200 nudist resorts and clubs in North America, according to the American Association for Nude Recreation, a lodging industry association for nudist resorts, clubs and campgrounds in North America that advocates for wholesome nude recreation.

More and more travelers are opting to go au naturel by booking a stay at a clothing-optional resort, where guests can take off as little or as much as they want. Some resorts limit nudity to certain areas, like the pool or beach, while other resorts are entirely natural and guests are encouraged to bare it all.

No matter if you are a seasoned nudist or embarking on your first clothing-optional vacation, these accommodations emphasize being free, feeling secure and having fun – naturally.

Hidden Beach Resort, Riviera Maya, Mexico

Hidden Beach Resort isn’t for the bashful. The intimate, secluded resort is walled, gated and nearly surrounded by mangrove jungle. The 42 suite, adults-only resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico is completely clothing free, from the massive hot tub and white sands of Kantenah Beach to the nude bar, restaurant and disco. Guests are expected to be discreet; no intimate touching or displays of affection that guests would not do in other public places with clothes on are allowed. The maximum capacity of the hotel is 84 guests, assuring privacy and attentive service. Guests also have access to the adjacent El Dorado Seaside Suites, but they must wear clothing to indulge in the amenities there.

On the edge of a white sand beach, Jamaica‘s Hedonism II offers two types of accommodations that allow guests to create their own experience based on their comfort level. The “Nude” experience features fully renovated premium rooms on one side of the resort, while the “Prude” accommodations feature garden view and ocean view rooms located near the quieter clothing-optional beach and gardens. All guests are welcome on both sides of the all-inclusive resort. Nudity is limited to pools, hot tubs, gardens and the beach. And, yes, the rumors are true – this is likely the most provocative of the clothing-optional resorts welcoming singles, couples and swingers alike.

Couples Tower Isle, Ocho Rios, Jamaica

At first glance, Couples Tower Isle might not appear to be a clothing-optional resort. For the most part, clothing is required at this all-inclusive resort, which boasts six restaurants, four bars, four hot tubs and four pools, but the hotel also features an au naturel island. Tower Isle, a private island near the main resort, is a sanctuary for nudists. Guests who wish to visit the island are required to shed their clothing upon arrival.
