More than one million passengers travelled through Kansas City International Airport (KCI) last month, new figures show.
The Kansas City Aviation Department has announced that 1.04 million fliers passed through KCI in August, an increase of 12.1 percent over the course of the past year. Boardings at the airport totaled 532,839 in August, with the rise attributed to an increase in availability of cheap flights and more nonstop services.
“The record 12.1 percent increase in passenger traffic was driven by low fares, excellent nonstop service and a strong commitment to Kansas City by our airline partners,” explained Mark VanLoh, Director of Aviation at KCI.
He added that AirTran Airways, Continental Airlines and Midwest Airlines all recorded passenger number increases of 20 percent or more over the month.
The monthly data from KCI also revealed that 482 international seats were offered from the airport in August, and 271 peak-day scheduled departures took place.
