Nothing wrong with Florida, or the Bahamas, or Puerto Rico as vacation destinations. Nothing at all. But if you’re out for a change of pace, a place that will do more than burnish that sun tan you’ve been working on, consider Costa Rica.
The beaches are still there – some of them very, very good indeed. But so too is an array of biodiversity that will open your eyes to a world you’ve probably only seen on TV. Consider: while Costa Rica represents just .05 percent of this planet’s surface, it encompasses almost 5 percent of the world’s biodiversity – and between 3 and 5 percent of the world’s marine life.
This country is stable, protective of the environment, and increasingly inviting. Those are some the reasons why discount airline JetBlue has launched a quartet of weekly nonstop New York flights to Liberia, Costa Rica, in the country’s sublime Guanacaste region.
JetBlue’s flights depart John F. Kennedy International, while competitor United/Continental’s service operates out of Newark Liberty International.
JetBlue’s Southbound New York flights to Liberia (which, by the way, sports a modern new terminal building) depart Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 9:32 a.m. and get to the gate at LIR at 1:48 p.m. Return Liberia flights to New York push back at 2:43 p.m. and arrive Kennedy at 9 p.m.
You’ve still got time to book JetBlue’s intro fare on this route, one what will save some significant money. Book and buy no later than Thursday, December 1 and one-way passage will set you back a mere $119. You’ll have to pay taxes and fees on top of that. The deal is good for travel through early 2012, February 15, 2012 to be precise.
What sort of allure does Costa Rica hold for you? Are you willing to leave behind the familiar for a few days and take the path less traveled?
