Happy National Dog Day! In honor of man’s best friend, here’s a look at some of the most dog-friendly vacation spots in the U.S.
San Diego, California
This sunny seaside city in Southern California loves its furry friends, and you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly beaches lining the shore. Dog Beach and Fiesta Island are two popular picks, thanks to their leash-free sands. If your pup would rather frolic on dry land, head to outdoor spaces like Balboa Park or Cowles Mountain. If your dog is the adventurous type, don’t miss San Diego’s annual Surf Dog Competition, where canines take to their boards to tackle San Diego’s famous waves.
Boston, Massachusetts
You’ll find plenty of dog-friendly outdoor spaces throughout this historical city, including the famous Freedom Trail. This 2.5-mile walk will take you and your pup to some of the most notable sites from the American Revolution, including the site of the Boston Massacre and Paul Revere’s home. Seattle, Washington

Take your pooch for a ferry ride to the San Juan Islands, or head up to Golden Gardens to let your pup roam leash-free while you soak up the views of the Puget Sound.
