Under the right circumstances, curbside check-in can save considerable time. The problem is, due to post-September 11 security considerations, it’s not always available. It is now at Miami International (MIA) if you’re flying American Airlines.

The nation’s largest airline lays claim to providing the only international curbside check-in at the airport. AA is MIA’s largest player by a mile. If, as some contend, Miami really is the de facto capital of South America, then Miami International is the continent’s crossroads. American dominates the place, with often double-daily departures to key destinations throughout the continent.

In a very real way, AA has assumed the mantle of the legendary Pan American World Airways, which once used Miami as a launchpad for a slew of service throughout the Americas.

When you check bags, remember you can do two pieces of luggage up to 50 pounds each at no additional charge.
