The toilet seat lid has long been employed for many things. Perhaps you’ve used it as a step ladder when trying to change the overhead light. Maybe you put the lid down to create some extra seating. But one museum is using toilet seat lids in a whole new way: as a canvas for art. Barney Smith of San Antonio, Texas has created colorful masterpieces on hundreds of toilet seat lids — and curious travelers can stop by Smith’s home to see his garage-turned-gallery (with a courtesy call to Smith, so he can offer a guided experience). The toilet seats commemorate everything from former presidents to television shows and pop culture, and you’re sure to find a lid or two that speaks to you.
