Yes, there’s Bondi Beach and the Great Barrier Reef and amazing graffiti in Melbourne – but Australia’s red center is truly one of the top reasons to visit. Far beyond the beach and past the bush, lies “the outback” full of diverse animals, stunning colors and natural wonders.
To truly understand the outback, a short geography lesson is important: Australia is a country spanning roughly the size of America with only half the population of California, most of which lives in the fertile coastal areas (think: Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, etc). This leaves the middle of the continent virtually uninhabited by people but full of incredible sites like Uluru (aka Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta, Devil’s Marbles and more.
