Despite the best efforts of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, gypsy cab drivers can still be a problem. If you’re headed to or from Newark (EWR), LaGuardia (LGA) or Kennedy (JFK) airports, don’t use drivers who approach you offering a ride, no matter what the rate they offer or what kind of wheels they have.
They may drive a Lincoln limo, but they well may not offer the kind of competence (or insurance) you need. Stick with authorized ground transportation. Best bet is to go to the Ground Transportation Counters. They’re located on the Arrivals level of the airports. For metered taxis, see the uniformed Taxi Dispatcher on the Arrivals level. Looking for information on authorized ground transport? Call 1-800-AIR-RIDE.
To make life easier for travelers, Newark Liberty International is running a pilot program that lets you pay for taxi rides with your credit card.
TaxiPass is available every day between 10am and 10pm. Get a TaxiPass voucher from a kiosk located in the Terminal A taxi stand. Redeem it when the trip is complete.
