The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that passengers will be able to use tamper-evident bags to carry duty-free liquids onto international flights.

Tamper-evident bags must meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines and can be used to carry any liquids purchased in duty free stores post-TSA checkpoints.

The TSA said the bags are for use only by passengers leaving the U.S. for international destinations and will not be accepted at checkpoints in the U.S.

This is an additional security measure designed to bring U.S. procedures inline with those operated in the European Union.

Duty-free stores in airports will begin voluntarily handing out the bags to passengers over the next few weeks.
