It’s going to be tough to top this one: rapper Tupac Shakur appearing with Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre, right there on a real, live stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Granted, it was Tupac in hologram, but the effect was eerie. The man’s been dead 15 years now.
Appearing in the flesh the first weekend of the Indio, Calif. Fest were Rihanna, Usher, and Eminem.
Now for the second weekend. Here’s a partial line-up:
- Friday, April 20 At The Drive-in makes an appearance, so too AVICII.
- Saturday April 21 look for the likes of AraabMUZIK, Andrew Bird, and Band of Skulls.
- Sunday, April 22 belongs to Beirut, Black Lips, and Childish Gambino.
As they say, ‘and these are just a few.’ Cochella 2012 is a gathering place for the biggest and best urban acts out there today. Believe it.
Precisely because of that, the Indio venue is bound to be crowded. Take a deep breath and chillax. You’ll get by with a little help from your friends. One way to save money and make some new friends at the same time is to share a ride with a fellow festivalgoer. Zimride works nicely. A check with their website shows rides from LA going for $20.
The oh-so-cool SoCal climate looks like it will cooperate. Producing a predictably perfect for the weekend: partly cloudy, with the temperature topping out at 75 degrees. Bring your hat, sun block, and dancing shoes. Don’t pack a blanket, outside food or beverages, fireworks, or pets. Video cameras and audio recorders are equally verboten.
