Think spring break and you almost automatically think beach? Think again. Orbitz’s latest Insider Index shows three of this year’s top five spring break sites are all but bereft of beaches. The index also indicates what you can expect to pay to get and stay at key spring break cities.
Here’s what’s hot:
Orlando is the epicenter of Florida fever. Mickey still makes a difference in this central Florida spring break magnet. Orbitz says he average airfare is $335, and the average room rate $115.
Las Vegas. Lots of sand. No seashore. But then the action in the deep desert takes place indoors. Both the average airfare ($344) and the average hotel rate ($96) render Sin City a comparative bargain.
New York. No need to start spreading the news, spring breakers already know how sweet a bite of the Big Apple can be. What they might not know is that the average airfare ($351) and the average room rate ($206) won’t necessarily bust their budget.
Fort Lauderdale. Finally, sun and sea – lot’s of beaches, lots of ways to kick back and chilax. Orbitz says the average airfare is $333, and the average room rate $148.
Cancun. Distance is relative, and fast flying machines render the Mexican Riviera relatively close. The place defines what it means to revel in sun and sand. The average airfare runs $570 to Cancun. The average airfare is a bit pricey: $222.
Orbitz says that although the average airfares are up to a majority of destinations, hotel rooms can be had for under $150 per night in eight of this year’s top 10 destinations.
