Flying to or from New York Kennedy (JFK), Raleigh/Durham (RDU) or Indianapolis (IND) this holiday season? If it’s JFK or Raleigh/Durham you might well be passing through a new terminal – if it’s Indianapolis, it’s a cinch.

Earlier this week (October 22), discount airline JetBlue opened its expansive new 26-gate Terminal 5, one of the first such facilites in the country designed and built after September 11. That eases security flow – for flyers and their luggage alike.

On Sunday, October 26, a new Terminal 2 is set to debut at RDU – the airport’s first passenger facility in more than two decades. Terminal 2 replaces Raleigh/Durham’s venerable Terminal C, which was built as a hub for American Airlines back in 1987. That hub has since closed, but American and (especially) American Eagle retain a significant presence at the airport. American Airlines even offers nonstop service to London Heathrow (LHR) from the Research Triangle.

The third airport to premier a new facility is Indianapolis International Airport. It opens up November 12. That terminal will serve all airlines flying into Indy.
