If you’re flying to or from Boston or New York today, plan on being late: Severe winter weather is wreaking havoc in the region. While carriers are cutting flyers some slack—waiving changes fees and such—at least one airline, Continental, tells passengers they “may wish to delay commencement of their trip.”

Continental’s northeastern hub is Newark Liberty International (EWR), an airport where FlightStats (www.flightstats.com) said, as of early Tuesday morning, that delays were “excessive” but “decreasing.”

At John F. Kennedy International, FlightStats termed New York flight delays as “significant,” but “decreasing.” Discount airline, JetBlue uses JFK as its prime hub, and American Airlines and Delta Air uses it as an significant international gateway. Meanwhile, the predictable is happening at New York LaGuardia (LGA). At the pocketport, FlightStats says delays were “excessive,” and “increasing.”

Up in Boston (BOS), FlightStats said “If you’re flying to or from Boston or New York today, plan on being late: Severe winter weather is wreaking havoc in the region. While carriers are cutting flyers some slack—waiving changes fees and such—at least one airline, Continental, tells passengers they “may wish to delay commencement of their trip.”Boston flight delays were “excessive,” but headed in the right direction. They’re “decreasing” according to the real-time aviation intelligence firm.

So whether you’re headed on a flight to Boston or jumping on a return New York flight expect your schedule to be altered.
