Marbella is Spain’s most exclusive and quality resort area. From flashy houses to stylish boutiques and miles and miles of coastline, Marbella is truly a resort paradise. Located just 25 miles from Malaga, travelers visiting Marbella will retreat to resort hotels on the beach, yachts in the marina, and houses on the hills that overlook the gleaming Mediterranean. Graced with exquisite restaurants and stylish bars and cafes, Marbella retains its medieval charm in Old Town. Only a few miles from the highly-visited and built-up resort town of Torremolinos, and the more exclusive Puerto Banus, Marbella is central to just about everything giving travelers exactly what they want from this posh resort location. Flights to Marbella arrive at Malaga airport; take a little drive through the other Costa del Sol resort towns and stop off for some tapas and wine on your way to Marbella.
Whether you book your cheap flight to Marbella for a January trip or a July vacation, you’ll find agreeable weather on Spain’s Costa del Sol every season with very little rain. Marbella’s wintertime temperatures are mild at an average of 50 degrees F, while summers stop short of scorching at 80 degrees F.
Winter, spring, summer or fall: there’s never a bad time to book a Marbella flight! Costa del Sol is named for the sun that floods its shore, so its consistently good weather carries over from season to season.
Peak Season: If your trip to Marbella falls between the months of June and October, you’ll be hitting the coast during high season, which in turn means pricey Marbella flights and hotel rates. It’s a fair trade-off for the chance to catch some rays on Marbella’s beaches in the summer sun, but keep in mind that making reservations in advance is key for this time of year.
Off Season: Cheap flights to Marbella are more commonly found during the off season, which lasts from the middle of fall through the end of winter: Though some restaurants may be closed due to the decreasing number of tourists, Marbella remains beautiful with its pristine beaches and comfortable weather.
After your Marbella flight lands in Malaga, you’ll be able to grab your bags and head straight for your final Costa del Sol destination. Busses depart regularly from the Malaga Airport for Marbella every hour: The bus takes you directly to Marbella’s main bus station, and the ride lasts about 45 minutes. Marbella is also accessible by train, and the city is easy to navigate by taxi or on foot.
You may not be able to see the shore from your window seat on your flight to Marbella, but the city’s beaches reach over 17 miles and are arguably some of the best sandy stretches of the Costa del Sol. Guadalmina, Nueva Andalucía and the beach at Puerta Banus are all popular sunbathing spots.
Parque de Alameda is Marbella’s lush, green urban oasis, complete with an impressive display of tropical plants and horse-drawn carriages ready for hire to squire you about the city in style. If you’d rather stay in the downtown area and avoid the beach for the day, head to Parque de Alameda to rest up.
If you’re traveling to Marbella sometime in July or August, chances are you’ll be in town for some of the city’s most famous celebrations. The Festival of Saint Bernabé, Marbella’s patron saint, takes place the week of July 11 and provides savory samplings of tapas, flamenco and live music. There’s a festival every June that’s dedicated entirely to celebrating pescaito, or fried fish, due to its high rank on Marbella’s list of favorite foods.
Before Isabel and Ferdinand claimed the south of Spain in the Crusades, all of Andalucía was under Moorish reign, and reminders of this history still exist in the form of ancient ruins and architecture. The Murallas del Castillo (“Castle Walls”) are currently being restored, but they’re an attraction not to be missed for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
