Impossible to reach Florence Rental office by phone. Wanted to change drop off location. Impossible to do on line. Called Thrift/Hertz international number, got routed to Canada changes desk. They could not help and could kit provide a number to call at Hertz. Looped bavk again and again to Canada staff. I am in Italy. Called 5 days in a row, different hours- many hours of trip wasted. Took car back to Pisa as originally booked, and that went well, but I really want to change drop off to Rome. Desk staff in Florence were horribly understaffed, but very nice people. Hertz / Thrifty need to improve their processes for persons renting in Italy who need to make changes to the reservation after picking up the car.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was an easy and quick pick-up and drop-off. The only negative was that they didn't have the size of car I reserved. I reserved a compact car to make driving and parking in Italy a little easier, but was given a large crossover SUV.

On the same day I returned the car, I received a message that said there was a damage on the car which did not exist before I took it. This is not the case. I took pictures of the entire car before I took the car, and also before I returned it. The damage is clearly there even before I took it. I objected to the claim, and provided pictures to validate my claim. I’m still waiting on a response. This is so disrespectful of a company to try and “squeeze” extra money out of its customers. Not nice.

No information from Kayak or Dollar that Hertz had taken over the administration of the booking. Additionally, when we got the car meant for 5 people, there were only a Fiat 500 with 4 seats. Otherwise, the car functioned fine, drove well, was clean. The car came with some scratches, we made sure to take good photos before and after, as we haven't gotten the final settlement as of yet.

It was great. We had a delay which left us getting to our pick-up location 5.5 hrs after the scheduled pick-up. The lady at the front counter helped us get a vehicle even after telling us the vehicle contract is terminated after a 2 hr delay. She was very understanding, especially since the delay was out of our hands.

kayak alters/modified images of cars. Making suvs look longer and boxier so they look like actual vans. Charges me the price of large van but tried to give me the smaller one or charge me another $600. Total waste never going to use kayak or budget again.

The staff was very disagreeable and pushy to inflate the cost of the rental. Very little information given about the insurance and scary tactics used to push for the maximum coverage that costs even higher than the rental itself. The lady even refused to give any details about the coverage offered by the Visa Card when you pay with it. The drop off was also incombassent the agent was kind of carrying a police investigation. It didn’t really look like Budget

Very slow pick up process. No one went to check the car with me. I was asked to sign contract in the office without seeing the car. Contract stated that there were no scratches, but when I approached the car I found many scratches that were not reflected in the contract. I was not allowed to return the car just by dropping the keys in the box. Return took almost an hour because of a long line and only one staff available for the review of the cars. I had a hard time explaining and providing proof with photos that I did not do any of the scratches that were present on the car.

We had to refuse the car as online when we booked the car was to be around €380 including €14 euros daily for insurance. Then when we went to collect the car we were told it would be €1200 euros and the lady on the desk could not explain to us why. She just kept saying “fees”. She seemed to have a bad attitude as she was frustrated we would not just accept “fees” and pay 3 x what we were quoted.

Since I became a Hertz Gold Member 10 years ago, this was the worst car rental experience of my life. I reserved an automatic car (only automatic, not 100% electric). After waiting for 45 minutes to collect my car because the Florence Airport Hertz only has 1 employee to do both the inside and outside work, I was handed my keys and was told " by the way, it's a hybrid electric". No one helped us to the car or showed us how to operate it including the fuel. Naturally we simply assumed it was like other hybrids that took both gas and electric. It was not until I tried to fill my tank of gas that it was understood that the car only took electricity. Italy is not a country ready for this type of vehicle, only a home that has an outlet for charging since it takes 5 hours for a "full tank". This was not explained or supported by Hertz -- it was simply one of the moments where I was left to fend for myself without proper information. With only a limited amount of electric kms left, you can imagine the panic of being stranded on the road for my wife and I. We were forced to find a location, figure out the electric charging situation in a place with very few charging stations actually opterating, not using AC in 40 degrees and not charging our mobile phones. It was a complete nightmare I do not wish on anyone. We found ourselves going to 1 place after another desperately trying to locate a working charging station. As we sweat from the heat and stress, we began to panic. This was combined with no working phone number for the Hertz FLR airport location ... how is it possible to not have any phone support whatsoever. We definitely felt doomed in this situation because we were given a car without knowing and a full explanation. The process of searching, driving very slow, and praying to find an outlet took a lot of time. We finally found a source, figured out the downloading app program, and began to fuel .... but it only gave us a few km before being told it would need hours to refill. We could not have waited hours in our best effort to return the car at the time we were suppose to, and not dehydrate from heat exhaustion. We filled to the best our ability, then begran to drive closer to the drop off, but we did not have enough kms of eletric to make it to the Hertz location. We were forced to do this process again for hours searching. We finally found a place, redid the app download process, and filled out electric to return the car. When we arrived, there was only 1 person working. This person was kind, but busy and could not check our situation or how the car was. I needed to explain the situation, but the employee was too busy to fully support me. She simply asked for the keys and said a manager would evaluate when he returned to work. I had no one to explain the situation to of the late return or limited electricity inside because of a lack of employees. I had to leave and handed the keys without a confirmation of charges. This was truly one of the worst experiences ever and we are still very shaken up about it. We want our money back in its entirety for this terrible experience -- if you need any reassurance if you should/should not refund me ... please put yourselves in my wife and my shoes and read this story again ... think about how stressed and bad you would feel... then please issue to refund quickly. Thank you for your time and support,

Due to an early flight, we had to drop off the car off hours without real-time validation of the car’s condition. We received an email claiming of a right front wheel scratch damage to the car however we captured a time stamped detailed video of the car’s condition upon pick up. The video clearly illustrates the “damage” was present before we rented the car. it is frustrating that we now have to waste our time challenging fraudulent charges. Luckily we have supporting evidence but would not recommend this Hertz location to anyone as a result.

The car was not properly prepared. They were behind , it was given a quick clean then handed over too us to inspect. The mileage on my invoice didn’t match. It has the previous drivers mileage included in mine. I took some pictures of things I thought were important. Car had no windshield washer fluid , found out highway, car was down oil, and tire had a slow leak that I nursed through the duration of our trip. When we returned they tried to say I damaged the plastic hubcap . I explained it was like that upon giving it to me . They said why didn’t I take a picture of it , I asked why didn’t you spend the time to point out all previous damages. They charge me $270 for a plastic hubcap that they probably won’t change. I have dealt with other car companies in Rome with no issues. I will never choose Avis again anywhere in the world. Stay away from this place in Rome.

Kayak and Avis both failed to notify me that an international drivers license would be needed. The people behind the desk at Avis said this was in the fine print. This is completely unacceptable and a detail this completely essential should be in bold red print. This should be better communicated to consumers to avoid such drastic issues.

No wiper fluid. Fuel tank wasn’t full even though they said it was. Said they wouldn’t honor Allianz insurance purchased through Kayak. I asked about special requirements for driving into other counties and they denied knowledge of anything. Austria and Slovenia both use “vignette” which is a toll sticker that can only be bought at the border. The rental car said nothing existed beyond cash tolls. This ended up costing us a lot of money when we were stopped by Slovenian police a few feet from the Italian border.
