Air Berlin Check-in

For short-haul and medium-haul flights, passengers must present themselves at the check-in desk at least 30, 45, or 60 minutes before the departure of their flight, depending on which airport they’ll be leaving from. For long-haul flights, passengers must check in at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure of their flight. Passengers checking in online need to have done so and printed out their boarding pass at least 120 minutes before the scheduled departure of the flight.

Air Berlin baggage allowance

Carry-on: One item is permitted, weighing up to 14lbs and measuring up to 22 x 16 x 8in.

Checked: You can travel with items that weigh up to 44lbs. If you have a round-trip ticket and are staying more than 28 days at your destination, you can travel with up to 67lbs. These limits also apply to children and infants.

Free baggage allowance for checked baggage is 44lbs per passenger. On long-haul flights when the distance between the departure and destination is at least 3,000 miles, the free baggage allowance is also 44lbs though the airline encourages that passengers carry bags that weigh less than 70lbs. If the length of the trip is exactly 28 days or more, the free baggage allowance for checked baggage is 67lbs per passenger if outbound and inbound flights are booked together under the same transaction number.

If you have a topbonus Card Silver/Gold or a topbonus Service Card, your free baggage allowance is 67lbs and you can also take sports baggage weighing up to 67lbs with you without any additional charge. To and from the United States and Canada, passengers can check in two items of baggage weighing up to 50lbs each.

Airline overview

Air Berlin is Germany’s second-largest airline after Lufthansa and the sixth-largest in Europe in terms of passengers. It is a low-cost airline based in Germany that primarily flies to popular holiday destinations in Europe as well as “city shuttle” routes linking London and Manchester to Germany. The airline is expanding as a pan-European carrier covering destinations without German link-ups: recent new routes have included London direct to Majorca.
