There’s plenty to do and see in Baton Rouge, so rest up on your flight. Baton Rouge is not only an important historical city in Louisiana’s past, but it’s home to a thriving cultural and entertainment scene.
Its location on the Mississippi River makes Baton Rouge a prime location for steamboats and ferries. Riverfront casinos line the streets and tourists mingle with residents in the outside cafes and open-air restaurants. Before nightfall, make sure to visit the Old State Capitol and the Old Governor’s Mansion and relax in some of the city’s beautiful parks and green space. With so much abundance in Baton Rouge, it’s hard not to be captivated by this welcoming city.
Baton Rouge experiences rain showers all year round, high temperatures and humidity during summer (June to August), and generally warm, sunny winter (December to February) weather. The best time to travel to Baton Rouge is between February and April, when the weather is usually comfortable and the heat and humidity are not at peak levels.
Public buses travel all over Baton Rouge, but they run infrequently. Take the Capitol Park Trolley to get around the downtown area for free. Some rental car agencies might rent you a car if you’re 21, but they will charge you a surcharge.
